Father\u2019s Day took a little longer to be established. In 1910, an American woman named Sonora Smart Dodd came up with the idea during a Mother\u2019s Day celebration. She believed that fathers also deserved recognition, as she had been raised in a single-parent household by her father, who cared for her and her five siblings.<\/p>\n

In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge endorsed Father\u2019s Day, and the celebration soon spread beyond U.S. borders. In most countries, it is observed on the third Sunday of June. However, in traditionally Catholic countries like Spain, the date was moved to March 19 to coincide with Saint Joseph\u2019s Day, honoring the father of Jesus.<\/p>\n
